Joan Miralles i Monserrat holds a B.A and Ph.D. in Romance Philology from the University of Barcelona, where he wrote an M.A. Thesis entitled Contribución al estudio de la onomástica mallorquina and a Ph.D. Dissertation entitled Un llibre de cort reial mallorquí del segle XIV (1357-60). Introducció, transcripció i estudi lingüístic that received the Premi extraordinari de la Facultat de Filologia. He has been Chair of the Dept. of Catalan Philology and General Linguistics (1979-1999) and of the Comissió Tècnica d'Assessorament Lingüístic (1997-2017) at the University of the Balearic Islands. He is a member of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans. He is a founding member of ISIC-IVITRA. He specializes in History of the Catalan Language in the Balearic Islands, Onomastics, Oral History, Popular Culture,  Culinary History, Balearic Immigration to Argentina and Cuba, Balearic Islands and Christipher Columbus, etc. He has published 25 monographs, among which we could mention
